Jumping on the Toy Story 5 soundtrack, Taylor Swift released “I Knew It, I Knew You” on June 5. In tune with brassy harmonicas and bursting saxophones, Swift’s signature country storytelling narrates Jessie’s arc, hinting at reigniting a spark with an old friend.
Swift joined forces with Jack Antonoff to produce the song, which marks her first drop since The Life of a Showgirl in late 2025. A sense of child-like wonder fills the song, with a similar carefree tone to her Fearless era.
On Instagram, Swift explained that she wrote the song after seeing an early screening of Toy Story 5.
“Writing this song felt like a musical departure and coming home at the same time. Creating something for Jessie was a new challenge and also felt like second nature all at once. And being a @toystory kid from the age of 5 til now… is an adventure I plan to be on, to infinity and beyond.”
The release follows weeks of eagle-eyed fans catching Easter eggs. Notable hints include the 1989 album cover replacing the background of seagulls with clouds, blue billboards with “TS” popping up, and a countdown appearing on her website. Some fans speculate that the build-up could also potentially tie back to the release of Taylor Swift (Taylor’s Version).
