Teigen Gayse sifts through the emotional layers of a breakup on “Running”

Date:

Canadian artist Teigen Gayse is one of country’s most compelling independent voices, constantly building a name for herself at every turn. She has over 10M global streams, 48M views on TikTok, and back-to-back singles in the Canadian radio Top 30. She also was recently named Female Artist of the Year at the 2026 BCCMAs. Listeners are drawn to her engaging country sound, and to keep the momentum going, she is dropping one of her most emotionally resonant releases to date.

On “Running,” Teigen tries to sift through the emotional layers of a breakup. Against refined guitar melodies, Teigen’s country vocals are imploring yet gentle as she exposes her deep, dark thoughts. She observes, “I used to be the one giving you the rush / Now you can’t get away fast enough / ‘Cause you’re running at the speed of daylight / And I’m just slow-motion running through the memories in my mind.” In the end, she concludes, “You’re running back to everything but me.”

Teigen shares,

“Writing ‘Running’ was one of the most therapeutic moments I’ve had as a songwriter. I cried the second I finished it. It’s a story I lived but hadn’t been able to put into words until that moment. It captures the feeling of a lopsided breakup, where one person moves on overnight while the other is stuck reliving every memory in slow motion.
