Taylor Swift has officially made history…again. Her 12th studio album, The Life of a Showgirl, scored the biggest first week in music history, debuting at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 with over 4 million units in the U.S. and 5.5 million worldwide. The album also earned more than 1.5 billion global streams, making it the largest debut of 2025.

In a statement, Swift reflected on the moment: “I’ll never forget how excited I was in 2006 when my first album sold 40,000 copies in its first week… Here we are all these years later and a hundred times that many people showed up for me this week. I have 4 million thank you’s I want to send to the fans.”

Beyond the record-breaking numbers, The Life of a Showgirl continues Swift’s streak of dominance across streaming and charts. All 12 songs debuted in the top 12 of the Billboard Hot 100, led by “The Fate of Ophelia,” her 13th No. 1 single. The album also set a new record for vinyl, surpassing 1 million units sold in its first week—something no album had ever done before.

Critics have met Showgirl with glowing praise. Rolling Stone called it “a fresh echelon of superstardom,” while The New York Times described it as “a catchy and substantive but unflashy album” that distills the intimacy of her Folklore era into pure pop clarity.

For Swift, it’s another milestone in a career defined by rewriting the record books—one that, fittingly, feels like the ultimate victory lap for pop’s reigning showgirl.
