British band Wolf Alice have returned form a four-year hiatus with the release of their newest single, “Bloom Baby Bloom.” The single came out May 16th, along with the announcement of their upcoming album, The Clearing, which has been confirmed for release on August 29th.

For Wolf Alice, “Bloom Baby Bloom” is a powerful ode to expansion in both life and music. The single serves as an exciting introduction to the new era that The Clearing will ring in for the band. Vocalist and guitarist Ellie Rowsell shares more about the song:

“I wanted a rock song, to focus on the performance element of a rock song and sing like Axl Rose, but to be singing a song about being a woman. I’ve used the guitar as a shield in the past, playing it has perhaps been some way to reject the ‘girl singer in band’ trope, but I wanted to focus on my voice as a rock instrument so it’s been freeing to put the guitar down and reach a point where I don’t feel like I need to prove that I’m a musician.”

The song is accompanied by a music video directed by Colin Solal Cardo, known for his collaborations with the likes of Charli XCX and Christine & The Queens.
