Bratislava singer-songwriter, Vlado Nosal, is not new to the music scene. He started his career in an alternative rock band, Queer Jane, who released three praised albums and has been called the “best indie band you have never heard of.” Vlado is known for his talent of creating captivating melodies and lyrical sharpness which has led to many international collaborations, including writing with The Brian Jonestown Massacre and Boo Hewerdine. Presently, Vlado is recording and touring with his backup band, The Avedons, whose sound flawlessly fuses rock’n’roll history with a more innovative, lo-fi edge, all while staying true to the “songs first ”attitude.
Vlado’s debut solo single, “Cold Cigarette,” marks yet another international collaboration with Vlado joining forces with multiple Grammy-nominated producer, Ken Coomer, and a recurrent comrade, Boo Hewerdine. The song’s lyrics can be seen as an ode to escapism and a tongue-in-cheek response to today’s problematic world, mentioning “ An awful lot of people in heaven” who “couldn’t get a room in hell.” The track has a mid-80’s sound with its instrumentation, and the lo-fi edge adds a modern twist which makes the song memorable. Overall, the single feels new and refreshing, making you feel like you’re floating in Shangri-la.
