After a year-long absence from Instagram and a period marked by creative and personal challenges, Sky Blue Sound has returned with new music. Today marks the release of their cover of Richard Thompson’s 1991 track “I Feel So Good,” out now.
The release is the project’s first since 2024, following “Monuments In Dust,” a politically reflective single that captured a more somber and contemplative tone. In contrast, the new version of “I Feel So Good” arrives with urgency and bite — a punk-leaning reinterpretation that transforms the original into something more immediate, physical, and defiant.
Rather than a straightforward cover, the track reimagines Thompson’s composition through energy and movement, emphasizing release over restraint and momentum over polish.
The recording was fully handled by Mauricio Carey, who arranged, produced, mixed, mastered, and performed drums on the track. Guitar and bass are delivered by Marshall Coates, whose playing adds a sharp, driving edge throughout. Vocals are performed by Phair Isles (Rachel Carey), whose performance pushes the track into a more confrontational and emotionally charged space.
The group describes the song as a reminder that feeling good can function as an act of resistance — a reclaiming of joy even in difficult or uncertain periods. That sentiment underpins the decision to reopen Sky Blue Sound’s release cycle after an extended pause.
Looking ahead, the project is set to continue its return with a new original composition scheduled for release next week, signaling further activity after the year-long silence.
While the hiatus reflected a difficult stretch creatively and personally, this release marks a clear re-entry point for Sky Blue Sound — not a reinvention, but a renewed forward motion.
