On Oct. 30, alt-pop artist Starling released her latest single “Queen” as she works on her new EP in the coming months. In this emotional anthem, Starling shows off her vocals as she uplifts listeners who may not feel seen.
Over a dynamic piano ballad, the British singer begins with an emotional verse that listeners may resonate with about how she thought she would be in a better position in life with lyrics like “I thought by now, I would have all figured out / I thought by now, I would be happier with myself.” However, as her voice reaches soaring highs, she changes the tone of her story by singing, “It’s not what you’ve done, it’s who you’ve become.” After listening to Starling’s raw, crystalline voice sing about reaching her dreams after braving rough days, listeners will start to feel like a “Queen” themselves as they’re encouraged to “hold the vision in the darkest days.”

“‘Queen’ is about giving up – that moment when you feel you can’t go on any longer. An anthem, a reminder, a mantra that I didn’t in fact need to “give up” I just needed to straighten my crown. … The truth is there are chapters in our life when we are being tested, and in the end, the winners are always the ones most brave.”
