This past Friday, May 15, the Hardcore Takeover 2026 tour descended upon Atlanta, Georgia. Held at Terminal West — one of the last major venues in the city to still host barricade-free hardcore shows — the night marked the first time in years that headliners Terror played without a barrier in Atlanta.
After 24 years as a band, Terror is currently headlining in support of their 10th studio release Still Suffer alongside support acts Pain of Truth, End It, and Start Today. Most stops of the tour have featured a local opener, and for this date, Atlanta’s own Leverage kicked off the night with a fast and relentless blend of thrashy crossover hardcore. While the crowd was relatively calm compared to the sets that would follow, the energy built in a palpable way, with the band’s aggressive approach spreading through the room into the mosh pit.
Start Today — part of the Rebirth Records roster — took the stage next, bringing their refreshing brand of youth crew-inspired hardcore. Channeling the spirit of those who came before them, the band is composed entirely of young adults — mostly teenagers, for that matter. In fact, lead vocalist Angus Frazier Herndon, who is 17, remarked that he had skipped his final high school exams just to embark on this tour with Terror. Their youthful energy radiated throughout the night; members of the band could frequently be seen stage-diving, joining the crowd, and even lending guest vocals during the subsequent sets.
End It brought Baltimore hardcore straight to the South, opening their set with a bang. As the stage-dives multiplied and the pit leaned more violent, the room’s energy became contagious.
The Flatspot Records band delivered entertaining banter between tracks while taking deliberate pauses to make political statements against law enforcement and the government, encouraging the audience to question what they are told and what traditions of our country they partake in. Vocalist Akil Godsey also took a moment to shout out his brother in attendance before recognizing his bandmates, reminding the crowd of the importance of giving your friends their flowers while they’re still here to receive them.
Pain of Truth, representing the DAZE label roster, delivered a powerful, aggressive performance packed with heavy riffs and explosive stage presence. Frontman Michael Smith was a breath of fresh air, commanding the crowd to tap into their most uninhibited selves with mosh call after mosh call. When Smith asked how many people were seeing the band for the first time, a significant number of hands went up — but the looks on their faces suggested they’d be spinning Pain of Truth the entire drive home.
Finally, hardcore veterans Terror took the stage to close out the night. Launching their set with an intro that bled straight into “Pain Into Power,” the room erupted into a sea of stage-dives and an animalistic mosh pit.
The band tore through fan favorites like “Spit My Rage,” “Overcome,” and “Still Suffer” from their Flatspot Records release of the same name. Despite a mid-set injury that paused the show for roughly 10 minutes, they rallied to deliver a captivating two-song conclusion, sending the room into a frenzy with the crowd-favorite closer “Keepers of the Faith.”
Terror in Atlanta was a masterclass reminder that hardcore is for anyone, even if it’s not for everyone. From the teenage openers in Start Today — including one of their crew members turning 19 on stage that night, complete with a birthday cake and a celebration led by Terror frontman Scott Vogel — to the seasoned headliners, this subculture remains a vital community for those who find authenticity and power within it.
Terror continues to powerfully represent both where hardcore has been and where it stands today, while championing the next generation alongside them. It’s a beautiful sight to behold, and one that guarantees the future of a genre held close by many.

If you haven’t caught them on tour yet, there’s still time. Tickets to their remaining shows are available here.
