Julian Navarro’s relocation from Baltimore to Denver wasn’t another attempt at a change of scenery; it was an intentional professional reset. He traded in his old studio for a shot at the Mile High City’s local scene — a gamble that has clearly paid off.
Alongside guitarist Alex Creighton, Navarro’s Cherokee Social project is hitting a stride that feels both earned and effortless. Their latest track, “Concentration,” part of Cherokee Socials respekk EP, captures that forward momentum. It’s a refreshing, groove-centric piece of indie pop that leans into a sultry vocal delivery and a funk-inspired energy that cultivates movement.
That specific, free-form feel translates from the track’s production, a blend of traditional alt-rock sensibilities with a booming, native-based percussion that has helped Navarro stand out as one of Denver’s most revered indigenous voices.
“Concentration” is available to stream now.
