Singer-songwriter Bea Miller doesn’t have it all figured out. On her latest single, “born to lose,” Miller delivers one of her most raw and candid songs yet, wearing her heart on her sleeve as she explores the quiet weight of depression, burnout and growing up.
Released on Friday, July 3, the pop-punk track sees Miller paint an unfiltered picture. She neglects herself, loses track of the days and watches life continue through a phone screen while feeling left behind. It’s the kind of emotional agony that isn’t loud or dramatic — just a slow, lingering feeling that quietly eats away at you.
“I could do my makeup like I used to do / Looking like someone who wasn’t born to lose,” Miller sings in the chorus.
Throughout the song, Miller faces what it’s like to feel as though she’s already fallen behind, longing for the person she used to be as a teenager and questioning how anyone can remain hopeful in a world that feels increasingly bleak. TThough emotionally heavy at times, “born to lose” remains deeply relatable, anchored by a chorus that’s as catchy as it is heartbreaking.
Ultimately, Miller never oversells the emotion. Instead, she leans into the exhaustion behind the lyrics with quiet honesty. While “born to lose” occasionally risks feeling one-note, its intimacy and vulnerability make it a fitting follow-up to her previous single, “depressed on the internet.”
