Eva Rose releases new single “Next Girl” ahead of debut album ‘The Last Laugh’

Date:

Upcoming alt-pop artist Eva Rose is just shy of two months away from the release of her debut album The Last Laugh. Riding high on the heels of singles such as “If You Wanna Be Adored” and “Better Than A Man,” comes Roses newest single “Next Girl.”

“Next Girl” finds itself in the aftermath of a brutal breakup, as Rose wishes her Ex’s new love interest luck because she knows the emotional tension that lies ahead.  “Next Girl’ is fiery, Rose was incredibly precise with her pen when she was writing this track. There’s a deeply sarcastic wit paired with the quiet undertones of bitterness and betrayal throughout the track. Her lyricism is a bit early Paramore meets Speak Now era Taylor Swift on this track.

“For ‘Next Girl’, I decided, ‘I’m emptying the clip on this, and then I’m done with the subject matter’,” says Rose. “I was on LinkedIn, and my ex’s new girlfriend popped up… I’m telling her, ‘Girl, you don’t even know what you’re getting into’. Every line is 100% true!”

Roses razor sharp wit doesn’t end in her lyrics, it’s mirrored in the songs production as well. It hooks you in with a slightly muffled version of what would go onto be the songs explosive chorus. This is a tactic many rising pop artists are finding success with, most notably Sabrina Carpenter on her hit song “Espresso.” The songs outro mimics the beginning, creating a loop that keeps listeners wanting more. It also parallels the story Rose tells in the song, it’s a mirror of how this ex of hers will be stuck in this never-ending cycle of new girls while Rose gets to move forward.

The single paves the way for The Last Laugh, which was written alongside producer/songwriter Ben Zelico and co-writer JT Foley. Despite being an album chronicling heartbreak, there’s a sense of catharsis and hope that is palpable throughout the singles.

“Even though this is a breakup album, it’s hopeful,” Rose explains. “If you listen to it, I want you to feel a sense of triumph, empowerment, gratitude, and freedom. I’ve let go of so much—which is why writing these songs was especially therapeutic.”

The Last Laugh is out September 25th, “Next Girl” is available everywhere now.
