Bardz is taking off the rose colored glasses and getting candid about “that part”

Date:

Bardz is just about two weeks away from the release of his latest EP spotlight. The Los Angeles based singer songwriter has released a handful of singles this year exploring the complexities of modern love and what it means to feel things deeply in the modern age. “that part” the latest single and closing track of the EP explores the idyllic nature of a relationship that didn’t work out.

The production of the track is signature for Bardz, there’s a smooth R&B quality to it with hints of indie pop and electronic sprinkled throughout. The electronic moments break up the sound and help to keep the listener engaged throughout the track. It’s a bit reminiscent of The 1975, specifically the bands I Like It When You Sleep… and A Brief Inquiry… eras.

“that part” situates itself in the aftermath of a messy relationship, it’s the moment that you don the rose colored glasses and your perception of the relationship becomes skewed. The entire track revolves around questions, it’s almost as though he’s pleading with the songs muse to confirm that the relationship was real, and not just a figment of his imagination. He questions the muse, but more so himself.

There’s a hesitancy to the lyrics, many things go unsaid and are left up to the listeners interpretation. This perturbed me at first, specificity is a non-negotiable for me most of the time. Yet, the more I listened to the track, the more i relished in the vagueness. It mimics the coded phrases and subtle messages between estranged lovers remarkably well, and it allows for the listener to fit the song into their own story with ease.

The spotlight EP will be available July 15th, and if “that part” is any indication of what to expect from the remaining tracks, it is surely an EP you do not want to miss.
