The Hails are back with slinky new single “Fool.” The band of Floridians scattered across Brooklyn, DC, and Miami have brought with them the moody longing of a relationship on the brink. With sonic influences coming from D’Angelo and Maroon 5, “Fool” is a song you will want to have on your upcoming fall playlist.
The track pairs warm guitar riffs with an electric swagger that comes through in the bass line. Vocalists Franco Solari and Robbie Kingsley‘s tones are distinct, but when they come together they create spellbinding harmonies that lull the listener into the fabric of the song. There’s a smoothness to the track, but it’s still groovy and danceable. It’s perfect for swaying under the dim lights of a speakeasy clad in vintage leather and lush furs. The chorus is hypnotic, and it’s impossible not to teeter along to its swanky rhythms.
There’s an effortlessly chic vibe to the song. Kingsley compares it to walking into a leopard-clad room and being greeted by a cocktail waitress holding a martini. “You think you’ve made it to heaven,” he says, “But she ends up throwing the drink in your face just for the hell of it. But you kind of like that.”
The music video, directed by Stephen Konnovitch of Cultivision, showcases the band sharpening an unlikely skill of theirs: pin-setting. If they do well enough, they are hoping to win a job at Duckpond Alley. Despite the job being obsolete, the band is convinced that the tides will change and their freshly polished skills will be needed and maybe even globally revered. But, after facing rejection, they return to their instruments on a rooftop, completing their own fools’ journey.
in October, The Hails will head out on their headline Duckpond Tour with highlights including Brooklyn’s Elsewhere (Oct. 29), Echoplex in LA (Nov. 14), and a triumphant return to their home state of Florida for shows in Miami (Nov. 20) and Tampa (Nov. 21). Tickets can be found here.
