Early-2000s nostalgic guitar strums soothe at the start of “piggy,” eilonwy‘s latest single. An attitude turns up the volume as the 24-year-old singer-songwriter delivers a pop-punk anthem where she doesn’t hold out.
eilonwy, an Algerian musician based in New York, said the track is “Just a song about someone who is evil and whom I hate.” A similar deadpan honesty rings in the rest of “piggy.”
With a Julia Wolf-like tone of breathy vocals, eilonwy snarls at the listener. She mocks, “Thirst when you want me squeal or fall / when you want me to kneel, you love to pull / When you’re dogging me down.”
The gritty punk track then softens, and eilonwy whispers her words while still discussing how someone’s putting her down. Currently, eilonwy’s catalog consists of haunting and vulnerable singles. In “piggy,” the emerging musician adds a bold layer to her otherwise more polished and folk-leaning discography.
