Powerhouse vocalist and songwriter Alisan Porter has officially opened a bold new creative chapter with the release of her latest single, “Race To Nowhere.” The track serves as the first taste of her forthcoming fifth studio album, introducing what Porter candidly dubs her “perimenopop” era — a soulful, witty, and unflinchingly raw exploration of modern womanhood, motherhood, and reinvention.
Known to many for her iconic childhood title role in Curly Sue, her extensive Broadway tenure, and her victory on Season 10 of The Voice, Porter’s new material shifts the spotlight entirely to her depth as an independent creator.
“Race To Nowhere” confronts the exhausting cycle of a constant striving for more, while pushing ourselves into a toxic level of productivity. Inspired by her own deep reflection, the song serves as an empathetic nod to anyone who can relate, who may lose themselves in the daily rhythm of caretaking, falling into old habits, or trying to chase a past version of themselves.
Musically, the project solidifies a milestone for Porter, serving as the first self-written and self-produced record of her career, cultivated alongside her co-producers Drew McKeon and Sam Bash. Rejecting the familiar, sterile, over-engineered pop trends, the track was recorded live in Studio A at Chaplin Recording Studios, an approach that anchors Porter’s powerful vocals with the smooth groove of legendary session players like bassist Leland Sklar and guitarist David Levita.
Ultimately, “Race To Nowhere” is a refreshing, deeply human reminder that sometimes the most powerful choice you can make is to simply step off the ride.
