Sophie Ellis-Bextor announced her 8th album, Perimenopop, via Decca Records on May 9th. The announcement was accompanied by her latest single from the album, “Taste.” The English pop star began her career in 1996 as the frontwoman of indie rock band Theaudience. Since beginning her solo career in 2000, Ellis-Bextor has earned herself 19 award nominations and 8 wins from 7 albums and a handful of EPs in between.
Her 2001 single, “Murder on the Dancefloor,” had a major resurgence after it was featured in the 2023 hit film Saltburn. It spent 17 weeks on the Billboard Global 200, and even made the top 10 at its peak. Ellis-Bextor’s viral throwback tune was named Official Charts’ biggest British female single of 2024.
This year, the London songstress is celebrating her continued love for pop music and the joy of getting older. In an Instagram post announcing Perimenopop’s release, she shared:
“I’ve been singing for 30 years now – i know! – and throughout my career I’ve been lucky enough to happily play with many music genres, but my heart beats the fastest for pop. This album is a celebration of that relationship. In fact, it’s a celebration of lots of things, including being the age I’m at and still having so many adventures and so much fun!”
The singer also announced a special launch show in London on September 8th, where she will perform Perimenopop in its entirety for the first time. Tickets are available here.
You can pre-save Perimenopop wherever you listen to music, or catch Sophie on the road for her UK and EU Tour. Tickets are available here.
