Devon Cole is feeling apologetic on “Sorry Mom”

Date:

You don’t have to be a mom to agree that motherhood is…a mother. It is not for the faint of heart, as it is a 24/7, 365 days a year job. It has plenty of moments, from the wonderful to the not-so-wonderful, and Devon Cole understands that she contributed to the not-so-wonderful. But she knows that everyone has probably given their mothers a tough time at some point, so for anyone who is feeling apologetic or sympathetic or guilty, her new single is for them.

With “Sorry Mom,” Devon issues an open apology to her mom—and to all mothers out there who can relate. Whether she acted inappropriately at the family reunion or accidentally started a fire in the garden, Devon knows that those were not good looks for her in her mom’s eyes. She sings, “I know the look you’re giving me all too well / I’m disappointed in me too, can’t you tell? / My apologies ain’t nothing but a line / But I say it all the time.” Still, the disco energy of the track alleviates these remorseful moments, and the bright guitar strums complement the rhythmic grooves that move the track along.

About the single, Devon explains,

“‘Sorry Mom’ is a cheeky confession and heartfelt love letter rolled into one song. I was challenging to raise—rebellious, defiant, stubborn, unruly. An absolute teenaged diva. But I’ve grown up to be a woman who loves all of those things about me, even if it caused my mom some serious grief in the past. We’re both better for it now—those years gave us some great dinner time stories for years to come. I know there’s a boatload of mischievous souls out there who will relate to this song. Equal parts apology and anthem, ‘Sorry Mom’ is for the rebels who turned out alright (eventually).”
