Devon Cole puts herself first on “Call U After Rehab”

Date:

Fresh off her JUNO award nomination for Breakthrough Artist of the Year, Devon Cole is definitely onto something. In October of last year, she released the fun and flirty “Hey Cowboy,” which is approaching 1 million streams on YouTube. Before that, she cast a spell with “W.I.T.C.H.,” an empowering female anthem that has resonated with nearly 40 million fans worldwide. While it is still too early in the year to tell how 2023 will unfold for this alt-pop singer and songwriter, it is safe to assume it will take her to new heights – especially if she keeps dropping hit songs like her latest, “Call U After Rehab.”

On “Call U After Rehab,” Devon takes the time to work on herself. As she comes to terms with letting go of a relationship in order to do so, she reminds us that this is a safe space by giving us buoyant melodies, playful rhythms, and comforting vocals. Over such an easy-going production, she sings, “I think this could be love / But I’m working through some stuff” and “Yes, I want ya / But I gotta get me back / Can I call you after rehab?” knowing that it is important to put self-love and self-care first. You can check it out below.

About the single, Devon shares,

“‘Call U After Rehab’ is my most vulnerable release yet. It’s a love song about pausing a relationship in order to take care of myself. I was putting off my issues for a while and finding any way to justify my bad habits. Deciding to say goodbye to my closest comforts, to give myself the space and time to heal, felt like ripping off a bandaid that had been there for ages. And this release kind of feels the same, in some ways. I hope people can relate by interpreting the rehab idea however they want to.”

You can listen to “Call U After Rehab” on platforms like Spotify, SoundCloud, and Apple Music.
