Niall Horan embraces his status as pop’s resident romantic with his latest project, Dinner Party, released via Capitol Records. Named after the dinner party where Horan first met his girlfriend, Amelia Woolley, Dinner Party arrives just in time for the season of love. Throughout its 12 tracks, the album explores every facet of romance, from the butterflies that come from falling for someone to the fears that often accompany love. A fanbase deemed the “Lovers” deserves nothing less than an album this amorous, brought to life through standout tracks like “Tastes So Good,” “Boys Are Fun,” and “Fighting Over Nothing.”

Nearly three years since The Show, also inspired by Woolley, it would’ve been easy to assume Horan risked becoming stagnant creatively. Dinner Party quickly proves otherwise. While he stays true to his signature style, he constantly finds ways to one up himself, and on this album, it’s the harmonies and lyricism that really take the cake.

As with every Niall Horan album, the LP grabs your attention right away with “Tastes So Good,” tapping into a pop-rock sound reminiscent of One Direction’s Midnight Memories, but with a seasoned veteran’s touch. In the same realm, “Fighting Over Nothing,” brings ’80s style guitar riffs to the forefront, channeling the sparks that come from a petty argument: “And she said, Hey, there’s no way out / Besides leaving our clothes on the ground / She said, Hey, come kiss my mouth / And we’ll stop standing here, fighting over nothing, now, now, now.”

My personal favorite track is “Boys Are Fun,” which feels like a strong contender for song of the summer, with its charismatic sound and irresistibly catchy lyrics. Perfect for any summer activity, whether you are laying out by the pool, swimming with friends, or on a late-night drive with the windows down and the volume turned up. Horan toys with the contrast between independence and companionship, singing about a woman who thrives on her own alongside someone who brings a bit of chaos into your life once the girls go home: “If you want someone you can late-night call / That’s gonna come running any time you want / Then boys are fun / Yea, if you want someone to complain about / And drive you crazy, make you laugh out loud / Will make you scream at ’em at the top of your lungs / Then boys are fun.”

Much like a dinner party winding down at the end of the night, the album follows suit, closing out with the acoustic “Die If I Don’t” and the reflective “End of an Era.” “Die If I Don’t” gives off the vibe of two people who can’t be together but can’t seem to stay away, similar to Fitz and Olivia in Scandal. “End of an Era” serves as a tribute to his late bandmate Liam Payne, tackling the reality of losing someone he once shared so much of his life with — growing up in the spotlight, sold out tours, and number one albums.

Be sure to grab tickets to see Horan on tour in North America beginning in March 2027.
