Deco channels 80s-inspired pop on new track “Weekend”

Date:

Deco’s latest single “Weekend” leans fully into the kind of feeling the band has been building toward with their upcoming album Dreamhouse: escapism, optimism, and the push-and-pull between routine and release. Released as the second preview of the record, the track doesn’t overcomplicate its message. Instead, it locks into something more universal about those hours you spend counting down the week until you can finally breathe again.

From the opening moments of “Weekend”, there’s a clear synth-pop foundation, but it’s sharpened by a more guitar-forward edge than some of Deco’s earlier work. That shift gives the track a familiar ‘80s-inspired pop sound. It’s bright, catchy, and clearly designed to hit in a live setting. The chorus is immediate and built for crowds, the kind that will translate easily into a live atmosphere.

Frontman Max Kendall describes it as living in that long-held anticipation of freedom, a feeling that starts in childhood and never really leaves. Written after a demanding debut album cycle that included touring with Nile Rodgers & Chic and chart success in the UK, the band channels that shift from intensity back into normal life. “Weekend” becomes less of a party anthem and more of a pressure release valve, in a sense.

What makes “Weekend” stand out is its simplicity done well.

Pre-order the new album Dreamhouse on vinyl, limited-edition vinyl, CD, cassette, or in bundles on Deco’s store.
