Daniel Seavey wowed the crowd with his performance at Madison Square Garden when he took the stage to open for Charlie Puth on the Whatever’s Clever! World Tour. Playing to one of the biggest audiences of his solo career, Seavey created a performance that highlighted not only his maturity as a performer, but also the versatility of his music as a solo artist.
Kicking off with his song “Blame it on You,” Seavey instantly connected with the enthusiastic crowd that filled the arena. Performing with a live band behind him and using his own talent of playing numerous instruments, he breezed through other songs such as “Time to Time (Annie),” and “I Tried,” using his vocal abilities to convey emotion without losing any sense of showmanship.
A highlight of the show occurred about halfway through when Daniel performed a looper cover. At every show, he takes a crowd suggestion on what song he should cover and does it on the spot with no practice, and if it’s a song he doesn’t know he listens to it once and plays it on the spot.
For New York, the chosen song was “Pompeii” by Bastille, and Seavey left the crowd speechless after putting the song together with his instruments and looper pedal so quickly. He was able to construct the track on the spot in front of everyone, creating a truly unique performance based around his skills. What made this moment special was Seavey’s unique ability to create an intimate environment at a large venue.

A very exciting moment came when he performed his newest song “Love’s a Gun.” Seavey had released the song not even 24 hours before he hit the stage, and so many people in the crowd already knew every lyric. The high-energy production and lyrical content lent itself perfectly to a live setting.
He then went on to sing his debut solo single “Can We Pretend That We’re Good,” and it had the crowd on their feet dancing as it always does. This led into “The Older You Get,” which Daniel repeatedly says is one of his favorite songs he’s ever written. The crowd literally lit up The Garden, as everyone in the audience held up their flashlights.

He concluded his set with “Sleeping With The Lights On,” which is not only a fan favorite, but also seems to be one of his favorites to perform. If the crowd wasn’t on their feet before, they definitely were for this song, especially when Daniel jumped down to the barricade to sing with fans, giving them a special memory. At the end of his performance, it was evident that he was not just a warm-up act for Charlie Puth; he was dominating the stage in his own right.
This performance was a reminder to his longtime fans of just how much Daniel Seavey has progressed as a solo performer, and for first-time viewers, it was an introduction to an artist who will one day be headlining the world’s most famous arena.
