New York trio Sunflower Bean release their new album Headful of Sugar on May 6, with a run of UK dates to build up the excitement. We saw their incredible show at The Wedgewood Rooms in Portsmouth, a return trip for the band. This was the penultimate UK date before setting off to play 20 dates across the USA.
Heavily promoting the new album, the band played eight new tracks in their fifteen song set. It all sounded great, and we look forward to the album release next month. Lead vocals and bass, Julia Cumming, transfixed and excited the crowd looking every bit a model. Nick Kivlen, guitars and backing vocals, and Olive Faber, drums, completed the line up.
Main support came from Lime Garden. A four-piece indie pop band from Brighton, UK, described as psychedelic surf rock infused with the essence of disco.
Also supporting were Prima Queen, an all female indie/alternative rock band fronted by song writing duo and best friends Louise Macphail (Bristol, UK) and Kristin McFadden (Chicago, USA).
