Genre-bending duo SOFI TUKKER have announced their new album butter — which is best described as “a labor of love, celebrating Brazilian culture and music, and is the jazz-infused, alter-ego companion to their acclaimed 2024 album BREAD.” The album is due out May 16.
The first single for the upcoming album will ironically be “Bread,” with Seu Jorge, and will be out May 2. It comes after the duo collaborated with The Knocks on “Brazilian Soul,” which has amassed more than 50 million Spotify streams and led to SOFI TUKKER exploring more Bossa Nova sounds. As a result, the song’s success and sound make the song what is called “the perfect album closer for butter.”

While the duo is based in New York, SOFI TUKKER — consisting of Sophie Hawley-Weld and Tucker Halpern — has ensured that butter, which was recorded in Brazil, consists of acoustic tracks, according to a social post on X. They have made some popular tracks from BREAD into reimaged versions for butter. This includes “Throw Some Ass,” “Woof,” “Hey Homie” and “Spiral.”

The duo has also created engaging, short-form docuseries, with the first episode out today. Future episodes will arrive in the coming weeks leading up to the new album.
butter also has given Hawley-Weld and Halpern a chance to explore Brazilian genres, including MPB, bossa nova and samba, as well as Latin genres, bolero and bachata, and more contemporary genres like reggae and samba-reggae. This differs from their past dance and EDM-sounding music over the last several years.
This comes after the duo went on their North American Headline tour in 2024, in addition to support slots with Kygo and J Balvin. Now they will also embark on select shows throughout the year after moving to Las Vegas, with dates at various Wynn Nightlife properties.
