Rising indie-pop artist OAKLND returns with a deeply personal and immersive new single, “loved you first.” With a style that bridges lo-fi intimacy and alt-pop production, the track sits naturally alongside the work of Lizzy McAlpine, Holly Humberstone, and Lyncs.
OAKLND first dipped into writing love songs earlier this year. As he shared, “back in June I wrote the first love song of this project … I wrote it as a surprise for my wife and gave it to her on the morning of our wedding.” He continues:
“After that, I kinda felt like there was more of the story to tell, so this is the follow up, ‘loved you first’ … coming out 10 October, our 10 year anniversary.”
“loved you first” opens with gentle, airy instrumentation. Lyrically, the song revisits the moment when the singer first loved their partner, exploring how that love has evolved and deepened over time.
The track follows the release of “the wedding song,” which was written to surprise his then fiancee.
