Mathias Julin continues to shape a growing identity built on vulnerability and cinematic pop songwriting with his new single “Where We Are,” released May 22. Known for building early momentum through acoustic performances on TikTok, Julin’s debut EP Someday expanded that emotional world with tracks like “No Souls,” “Deadbeat,” and “Satellites.”
“Where We Are” marks a noticeable shift in tone. Built around the chorus “don’t care what everybody’s thinking, just wanna be where you are,” the track leans into a carefree, sun-soaked aesthetic. It’s a love song centered on escape: two people choosing each other over expectation or outside pressure. Rather than overcomplicating the message, Julin keeps it grounded in a simple emotional truth that love feels different when it’s private and unbothered by perception.
What makes the track stand out within his catalog is the contrast it creates against his earlier work. Much of Julin’s music often reflects longing and heartbreak. Here, however, he steps into something lighter. As he’s described it himself, the song comes from a place of “being young, dumb, in love, and not caring what anyone thinks.” That sentiment carries through the production, which feels airy and expansive, built for windows-down drives and late sunset moments rather than late-night reflection.
“Where We Are” retains the emotional clarity that defines Julin’s writing while pushing toward a more commercial, radio-ready track.
