Faye Webster brings a dreamy kind of melancholy to Birmingham

Last year’s I Know I’m Funny Haha catapulted Atlanta songwriter Faye Webster to national fame in a big way. Between her own sold-out headlining tour to immediately support the album, festival dates, and confirmed future support dates with HAIM, her music has captured the public consciousness in a way that’s utterly remarkable because of how unassumingly great it is. Last week, Webster kicked off another leg of tour in Birmingham, Alabama, where she played a 75-minute set that touched on the majority of last year’s album and her debut Atlanta Millionaires Club. Armed with an incredibly talented backing band and eerie, illuminated signs that merely said “haha”, Webster took the sold-out (and might I add, extremely packed – for all of the shows I’ve seen at Saturn, I can’t think of a date that had more people) crowd on a relaxed, blissed-out journey, with her recognizable voice cutting through the haze to guide us.
