After spending the last several years in constant motion, Evan Honer is finally learning to appreciate where he is. That mindset is at the heart of his latest single, “say anything,” a vulnerable indie-folk about the quiet heartbreak of watching communication unravel in a relationship.
After Honer’s viral cover of Tyler Childers‘ “Jersey Giant” amassed more than 200 million streams, the former Division I swimmer quickly transformed from balancing college classes and local gigs into a full-time touring musician. Since then, he’s earned over 500 million career streams, a Gold-certified single, sold-out shows alongside artists like Wyatt Flores, and launched his own independent label, Cloverdale Records.
The track arrives ahead of his forthcoming album Everything I Wanted, which was recorded over just 18 days in a garage studio Honer built himself after relocating to Nashville. While his signature acoustic storytelling remains intact, Everything I Wanted expands into indie and alternative-pop territory with string arrangements, pedal steel, horns, his roommates, and full-band moments.
With “say anything,” Honer shifts the focus away from milestones and inward toward the deeply personal moments that define his songwriting. The song’s acoustic textures accepts that not every relationship ends with the closure we hope for. It’s a reminder that healing often begins not with finding the right words, but with accepting that some things simply can’t be said.
