Dayglow brings “liberty and glow for all” to Philadelphia

Date:

Dayglow by Shauna Hilferty

On a chilly Sunday night in Philadelphia, Dayglow brought his latest album to life. In celebration of the fourth album Dayglow, he stopped in Philadelphia for “Dayglow The Tour.” The indie-rock artist released the self-titled record only a few weeks ago, giving fans just enough time to learn the lyrics to the new catalogue.

The twenty-three song setlist included favorites from every album, beginning strong with mashup of “Junior Varsity” and “Broken Bone”, continuing with another new track, “Silver Lining”. In favor of a stripped down sound, the synths took a backseat for this tour. Only briefly does Dayglow play songs from his 2022 record, People In Motion, the set featuring “Then It All Goes Away”, and “Like She Does”.

Taking it back to 2018, seven of the twenty-three songs were from debut Fuzzybrain, as a treat to longtime fans.

Early 2000’s indie rock crept into each song, molding the original song recordings into rockier versions of themselves. A fun surprise came when Harmony House‘s “Crying On The Dancefloor” became country, followed immediately to a more bare bones “Like She Does” from People In Motion. In between songs, Dayglow’s lead, Sloan Struble, explained that he visited Philadelphia’s iconic Liberty Bell, but from outside the many layers of glass, adorning a shirt that read “Liberty and Dayglow for all!!!” keeping up with the themed T-shirts for each city.

As we neared the end of the set, the fake closer had to be “Can I Call You Tonight?”, with Struble encouraging everyone to dance and sing along, as he did so himself, kicking and grooving in his red Converse. Dayglow’s 4 song encore included a blend of songs from different records, closing enthusiastically on “Run The World!!!”.

Dayglow’s “Dayglow The Tour” will continue until November 23, 2024, with three nights in Dayglow’s hometown of Austin, TX. You can find the remaining dates below and tickets here. Listen to the new album here!
