Thomas Day goes through the different stages of love on ‘Angel Boy’

Date:

From embracing the potential hurt that can come from a new relationship to letting the love of a new connection fill him up with joy, Thomas Day has told fans about plenty of his experiences with romance and heartbreak. His powerful songwriting has moved many listeners from all around the world – over a quarter of a billion, to be exact – to identify with the stories he shares in his songs and become avid fans for life. With songs like “Hearts Get Broken” and “Paper Cup,” Thomas touches on the variety of emotions that one can go through when meeting that special someone or losing them forever. On his new EP, Angel Boy, Thomas consolidates these feelings into one specific, refined package that starts at the very beginning of a relationship and ends right after that relationship has run its course.

The EP opens with “Sentimental,” an innocent pop ballad that contains feel-good melodies and adoring lyrics that capture the essence of infatuation. Over the light instrumentation, Thomas sings, “I can’t love you a little / I need more than just a taste / Just tell me that you want me to stay / God, I’m so sentimental / I cry when I look at your face / You’re everything I want in one place.” We then move onto “Catch Up to Me,” which is when Thomas realizes that his feelings for this other person are not reciprocated. It’s lush and emotional, with the acoustic guitar and swells of strings prompting us to wonder how much longer Thomas has to “keep waiting on your love.” The previously released “Paper Cup” is the climax of the EP, as doubt starts to take over. Thomas sings from his heart, giving us diaristic lines like, “Now I get afraid thinking about the way it was / Wonder if you’ve moved on while I can’t give you up.” These fearful feelings are then embraced on “Broken Glasses,” which closes the project. The light piano and strings add to the bittersweet feel of the track, their wistful sounds doing their best to relieve the downhearted lyrics. Gently, Thomas shares, “I’m scared to forget your face / Now I’m starting to cry / It’s time for goodbye,” bringing everything to an end.

Telling us more about Angel Boy, Thomas shares,

“I wrote these songs by myself on planes and in cars and at my piano at home. They are some of the deepest parts of me I’ve shared, and I can confidently say they are the best songs you will have heard from me so far.”

Recently, Thomas wrapped up the U.S. leg of ‘The Golden Years Tour,’ where he opened for Joshua Bassett across 21 show dates. In January, Thomas will join Joshua for the European leg of the tour, which kicks off in Dublin. Tickets and more information can be found here.
