Nina Storey releases a steamy new single, “When The Lights Go Out”

Date:

Longtime pop singer/songwriter Nina Storey released her latest single “When The Lights Go Out,” a pop-rock track that alludes to what goes on after hours.

It begins with a simple percussion and catchy tenor riff and Storey’s voice grazing alongside the instruments, the lyrics from the first verse insinuating an escape. “Are you interested in leaving? / I’d like to know you more / Let me hold the door,” Storey says. The chorus picks up with the addition of symbols and an additional rhythm guitar, yet the standout in the song is Storey’s vocals. As if she’s flirting with the song itself, Storey’s sultry voice pairs well with her not-so-subtle lyrics. “Don’t stay away / Kiss me harder,” she urges in the bridge, really drawing out each syllable as the tempo slows down, just to pick back up again with the chorus with a beat that will leave you tapping to it long after the song ends.

Nina Storey’s single was released the last week of May, just in time to celebrate Pride Month. As a queer artist herself, the release of the sexy and powerful “When The Lights Go Out” just before a time of celebration has not gone unnoticed. Storey advocates for LGBTQ+ rights and “as a queer artist, she has always advocated for awareness and visibility in her art.”
