Frisky, easygoing nights of the past linger in almost monday’s latest single, “skinny dip.” Wrapped up in indie rock pop sounds, the single reminisces on adolescent fun and serves as the third single for their second album.
The San Diego-based indie trio, composed of Dawson Daugherty (vocals), Cole Clisby (guitar) and Luke Fabry (bass), has been slowly teasing a new album since the start of the year, having already released two other singles: “leaving is easy” and “no more regrets.”
In “skinny dipping,” the band’s Californian summer energy washes up to shore. A crying electric guitar swoons through the sky as a heavy bass drum kick sets off a jumpy chorus. Daugherty sings in a staccato tone, similar to that of Royel Otis, until he pines over long-lost nights, repeating, “Oh, do you think about it sometimes?”
The song comes to a halt while Daugherty harps on how dynamics change over time, until the beat builds back up again to the chorus, reminding us of lively nights once had.
Recently, almost monday received a 2026 iHeart Music Awards nomination for Best New Alternative Artist, and is currently on a U.S. tour with Young the Giant and Cold War Kids until June 27. Find tickets here.
