Oliver Symons crafts a dizzying sonic landscape on “What Is Happening?”

Date:

Belgium based artist, producer, and songwriter Oliver Symons just released his newest single “What Is Happening?” Symons first began to gain traction as a member of Bazart, a Benelux band that has commanded arenas and major festivals across the Benelux. He released his debut solo EP in 2025 and quickly gained recognition as a solo artist playing his first sold out headline show in Brussels last October. Now, Symons is signed to the LA–based label Maison Arts and is planning on pushing musical boundaries all throughout 2026.

“What Is Happening?” is most striking in its production. Symons manages to capture the emotional weight of a relationships final breaths and melds it into an ambient softly electronic soundscape. The layering of the harmonies and main vocal stems create an eerie, almost alarmingly sensual feel to the track. There’s a palpable sense of passion and desire that underscores the track.

Lyrically, I found the song quite vague. We never do fully find out what’s happening, but i think that’s the point. The track thrives off of confusion and provoking that feeling through sonic elements rather than lyrical complexity. Songs don’t always need to prompt intense literary analysis in order to be effective.
