Loose Buttons finds magic in the mundane on “My Gemini”

Date:

New York City-based indie rock four-piece Loose Buttons investigate the magic of the mundane on their newest single “My Gemini.” The song follows “I Saw Jon Hamm At The Beach” and “Come To Brazil” as the next chapter in the world of their upcoming album You Came To See Magic, slated for release this August.

Stereogum once describe the band’s sound as “Ultra catchy downtown rock n’ roll” and we couldn’t have said it better. “My Gemini” feels like running around New York City on a warm summer night, a bit buzzed and with a group of friends that has seen you at your highest highs and lowest lows, but still stayed.

The track immediately hooks the listener by starting with the refrain “Sang all night, drank all night, fought ’til the morning” before jumping into the verses. It has a strong earworm quality to it, and when the chorus comes back around it feels like you’ve known the song your whole life rather than just a few minutes.

The verses are reminiscent of that awkward phase in your 20s when some of your friends are settling down and starting families while others “can’t hold onto a lover.” Each of the verses wanders off into that mid-20s discontent, but we are always pulled back to the chorus by the song’s Gemini muse. That is where the magic in the song lies: in the fact that no matter how far you wander, the person you love stays on your mind.
