Michael Sanzone is “Going, Going, Gone” on new single

Date:

Singer Michael Sanzone refreshes the age-old saying “you don’t know what you’ve got til it’s gone”, in his new single “Going, Going, Gone”, which expands upon the timeless theme through soft rock and acoustic sounds that are as breezy as a cool summer day.

The opening acoustic guitar chords are loosely reminiscent of the same opening to The Chainsmokers’ 2016 collaboration with Daya, “Don’t Let Me Down”. The song in its entirety sounds relatively 2010s radio pop influenced, but doesn’t play into the nostalgia too much. Sanzone’s clear and smooth vocal register avoids becoming overly saccharine — especially for a song about moving on after a lost connection (“And now you’ve left / It’s hard to move on when you’re losin’ your best friend”).

The song’s acoustic guitar is rounded out with piano, drums and the echoing sound of joyous claps that construct a palatable acoustically inclined track that evokes the sounds of a decade ago. When nostalgia is deemed a hot commodity, as it so often is these days, music that sounds as if it were created to offer quick glimpses back to easier days can often be vulnerable to the pitfalls of such a forced attempt as reminiscence. Sanzone’s sentimental single avoids these pitfalls and manages to deliver poignant reflection through user-friendly, breezy acoustics.

You can listen to “Going, Going, Gone” on platforms such as Spotify and Apple Music.
