Jason Lyles channels his emotions into songwriting on newest track “Deflated”

Date:

Jason Lyles‘ latest single and video, “Deflated,” serves as a first-person narrative exploring the process of dying and coming to terms with it. Collaborating with long-time producer Andrew Preavett and violin virtuoso Stephanie Brooks at Breaker 17 Studio, Lyles crafts a deeply personal yet universally resonant composition that touches upon the inevitable experience of loss.

Inspired by witnessing the decline of a beloved pet, Lyles channels his emotions into songwriting, offering catharsis for both himself and listeners. “Deflated” confronts mortality head-on, using the metaphor of deflation to symbolize life slipping away.

Continuing into 2D stop-motion animation, following the success of “The Light,” Lyles collaborates with print artist Alex Birghenthal of Fox and Fish Printing for the accompanying music video. Through charming visuals featuring a balloon character and animal companions, Birghenthal crafts a narrative that beautifully juxtaposes darkness with adorable imagery. Described as the “cutest video to cry to” and reminiscent of a pop-up book about loss, the video adds another layer of depth to the song’s message.

With grunge-inspired guitar and drums juxtaposed with a beautiful string arrangement and lush vocal harmonies, the track strikes a delicate balance between darkness and upliftment.
