Jake Thistle has released “Alone, Together,” an anthemic pop-rock track inspired by the contrast between nature and the urban landscape of the tri-state area. The New Jersey native channels Bruce Springsteen to deliver a fresh take on 1980s-inspired rock.
Although undeniably high-energy with a soaring chorus, “Alone, Together” reveals an introspective, contemplative side of the singer-songwriter as he celebrates the beauty in what many would consider mundane: the roads between New Jersey and New York City. In the verses, he sings, “Losing time / Business or adventure tonight / You don’t have to decide / But we’re only breaking down / If we’re stuck inside the sound of the Turnpike.”
About the inspiration behind the song, Thistle says:
“The original seed for ‘Alone, Together’ comes from an ever-repeating ride I make on the New Jersey Turnpike. On a certain stretch, there’s a post-apocalyptic looking scene of billowing power plants to one side, and the shining Manhattan skyline on the other. I am often struck by the contrast of industrialized harshness vs beauty in such close proximity. Two worlds that stand alone, yet together joined by this road.”
At only 21, Thistle is an experienced musician who takes inspiration from the likes of Stevie Nicks, Foo Fighters, Tom Morello, and The Lumineers. In addition, he has already released two LPs, a demo album, Down The Line, in 2021, and a live album, Jake Thistle at The Transparent Clinch Gallery, in 2024.
