‘In a World That’s Always Ending’: Your Favorite Person finds harmony in chaos

Date:

Often nestled in the quiet of Woodstock, NY, indie rock newcomers Your Favorite Person blend raw sentimentality with grunge grit in their debut album, In a World That’s Always Ending. The band, founded in 2022 by Matt Brady and Nighttrain Schickele, quickly evolved from a duo to a quartet with the addition of Ben Hansen on drums and Luke Fisher on bass, creating a sonic landscape marked by both nostalgic and visceral sounds.

At the heart of the band is Brady’s lyrical reflection, influenced by acts like The Beach Boys and Car Seat Headrest, and Schickele’s deeply expressive guitar riffs. Their shared vocals give an intimacy to the album, which dances between personal and philosophical, inviting listeners into a world tinted by the gravity of growing up and navigating relationships in uncertain times. In a World That’s Always Ending serves as a chronicle of these transitions, painting each track with echoes of singer-songwriter sensitivity layered with the weight of grunge.

The opening track of the album “Sun Song” introduces listeners to the band’s versatility, as it starts with a slow and melancholic guitar riff and raw vocals, and builds towards a rocking and angsty chorus with rapid drums from Hansen and a frenetic energy. It sets the tone for the rest of the album.

Schickele’s story adds a charming layer to the band’s character. A San Francisco native with a passion for swing dance and sea shanties, he brings a depth of Americana influence to the group. His voice, along with Brady’s, layers the album with harmonies and adds depth to the track.

With In a World That’s Always Ending, Your Favorite Person have made an album that resonates with the uncertainty of youth, while also offering a place for listeners to find comfort, warmth, and understanding amidst the chaos.
