Los Angeles-based duo Fake Dad is back, and they are begging for your attention on the mania-fueled new single, “Third Degree.” Practiced and refined on the road during recent tours with Wallice and Strawberry Fuzz, the track is a brilliant sonic collage of the band’s electro-pop roots and raw, punk aggression. It delivers distorted guitar riffs and effervescent synths, pairing sweet melodies with delightfully unhinged lyrics.
According to vocalist Andrea de Varona, the track aims for a 2000s-inspired club jam with a riot grrrl twist, capturing the messy hypocrisy of wanting to be untouchable and confident while desperately craving affection and needing to be desired. Multi-instrumentalist Josh Ford notes the song explores the intersection of electronic music and punk ethos, bridging the gap between electro club beats and riot grrrl attitude.
In the wake of the success of last year’s EP Holly Wholesome and the Slut Machine, a SXSW showcase, and a spotlight on Netflix’s Ginny & Georgia, the duo is keeping the momentum high and has no intention of slowing down. Fake Dad is set to hit the Santa Monica Pier 360 Fest on June 27, followed by a headlining slot at The Echo for Rocknite on July 23 alongside Fime and Forest.
