With her heartfelt music and stylish campaigns with Adidas, Coach, Levi’s, Guess, Timberland, and more, Chelsea Jordan has cultivated a strong community that is obsessed with the ways she fosters self-expression. Her songs, such as her debut single, “THE GOOD PARTS,” and recent hit “halfwaythru,” have introduced listeners to her soulful vocals and emotive storytelling, making her a rising force in the scene. Currently, “halfwaythru” has over 2M streams, no doubt most of those streams coming from her 320K followers on TikTok! Additionally, Chelsea’s music has secured spots on playlists like Spotify’s Pop Rising, Pop Sauce, and Fresh Finds, to name a few. Her inspirations stem from artists like Amy Winehouse, Etta James, Daniel Caesar, and SZA, and their influences can be heard from track to track—including her latest single, “level out.”
Nostalgic and warm, “level out” is a tender look at life after heartbreak. The acoustic guitar in the beginning of the track gently cozies up to the vocal harmonies and Chelsea’s resonant vocals, putting us in a comfy place. But as the track goes on, the production fills out and builds upon the details of the lyrics. With a soulful tone, Chelsea sings, “I try not to bother my friends / By bringing you up all the time” and “Don’t get me started on our favorite songs,” as she tries to get through the week without thinking about her ex. In the end, she asks, “When will the highs and lows level out?”
About the single, Chelsea explains,
“‘level out’ is about the point of a breakup where you think, ‘Wow, I might actually get through this,’ and then getting slapped in the face with a reminder of your ex that makes it feel like you’re right back at day one post-breakup. It’s about grief and having hope in knowing you’ll be okay but wondering when.”
“level out” is out now via Arista Records. You can listen to it here.
