Pop-punk-princess Lauran Hibberd on her ‘Garageband Superstar’ album tour

Date:

Lauran Hibberd is at once a sweet girl next door and a slacker pop aficionado. Her live shows just get better and better, combining exciting stage presence, genuine stand-up comedy humour, and belting catchy pop songs. Recently described by Rolling Stone as a ‘new grunge hero’, Lauran has just released her debut album Garageband Superstar, with a run of eight shows across the UK.

The show at The Wedgewood Rooms, Portsmouth, felt like a hometown show, being just across the water from the Isle of Wight, where Lauran resides; in good company with other ‘on the up’ artists including Coach PartyWet Leg and Plastic Mermaids. There’s a buzz about music from the little island off the south coast of the UK.

Lauran and band played a solid set of 16 songs, old favourites and instantly likeable tracks from the new album. Highlights included a duet with Viji for the song “Hot Boys”, and a superb response from the crowd to Lauran‘s classic “Call Shotgun”. Closing with “Last Song Ever”, what a show!

First support came from Viji, Austrian-Brazillian artist Vanilla Jenner. An absolute treat.

Second support came from Daisy Brain, an exciting alt-grunge band from London.
