There should be a secret formula for how to make it in the music business. But because music is subjective, the formula is subjective. You cannot rely on your talent and passion alone.
On July 1, co-founder of Work Smarter Music Marketing, Kenny Feinstein, delivers More Than Talent: 7 Steps To Attain The Brand, Acquire The Gigs, And Amass Lifetime Fans. Throughout, Feinstein offers his expertise in the music realm, creating a guide that he could have definitely used when he first started.
Feinstein shares,
“This is the manual that I wish I had while navigating my early years through the music industry. I have read most of the industry books out there, and each one holds something unique. My goal was to channel the most important advice from each of those into the easiest and smallest package so that the reader could get started on changing their lives today. A succinct package that provides actionable steps was my goal.”
Feinstein has a jam-packed résumé. He has over 20 years of experience behind him in the music industry. There’s his past experience as a busker, a session musician, a touring support musician, a producer, a music teacher, a booker and organizer for festivals, an expert consultant, and life coach. Additionally, he serves as the frontman, manager, and booker of the independent bluegrass band Water Tower.
In 2020, Feinstein took over marketing for Water Tower. He ultimately revolutionized the marketing game for the band by dropping outdated practices for ones that were more modern and catered toward the online world. Other bands noticed and started coming to him for help, inspiring him to launch Work Smarter Music Marketing with his best friend Jessica Babin.
Feinstein specializes in marketing consulting and works directly with artists, bands, and festivals to develop money-making strategies for their brands and businesses. Meanwhile, Jessica Babin specializes in social media, online marketing, and content creation. She has worked with hundreds of clients, from artists and bands to festivals and venues to radio shows and music series. She helps influencers elevate and expand their online presence through social media management, video editing, email management and marketing, website design, website optimization, PR, online advertising, brand deal acquisitions, and social media content videography.
Both Feinstein and Babin know what it takes to build longevity in this ever-evolving world of music, and they pool their resources in More Than Talent. It’s sad to admit that talent just isn’t enough to make it as a major artist these days—you need to strategize.
No-nonsense. No waiting for a “big break.” In More Than Talent, readers will learn how to make the most of themselves and their resources. There are steps on how to invest in yourself on a broke budget, how to strengthen your social media, how to gig the proper way, make connections, build a fanbase, and avoid burnout. This book will cater to those who are looking to defeat the algorithm, create genuine interactions, and go from “hobbyists to headliners.”
