Badflower’s ‘No Place Like Home’ explores grief, loss and redemption — Album Review

Date:

Platinum selling rock band Badflower has released their most emotionally raw album to date, No Place Like Home, via Big Machine/John Varvatos Records. This thirteen-track album takes us on a journey of pet loss, anticipatory grief, and creative burnout, all of which are incredibly relatable to fans across the world. Produced by frontman Josh Katz alongside Grammy Award winner Nick Raskulinezc (Foo Fighters, Alice in Chains), this album was written entirely sober and shaped in isolation.

“Home is myself in a memory,” Katz reflects.

“Everything now feels foreign. We built our lives on youth and ambition – then one day you wake up 34, post-pandemic, and realize you’re already the ‘something’ you spent years becoming. That shift is what this record sounds like.”

The album opens with the title track, “No Place Like Home,” a sultry and soulful introduction with some Wizard of Oz metaphors mixed into the lyrics. The second track, “Haunting You,” is more aggressive with a punk-rock feel, but it still manages to capture their signature rock-n-roll sound we all love. “Paws” is also connecting deeply with fans, climbing steadily with Top 25 airplay at rock, active rock, and alternative radio. “Paws” is something all pet lovers can relate to on a deeper level as anticipatory grief can be crippling.

On Butterfly,” Katz grapples with the heavy expectations placed on the band by fans who say their music saved lives, while “Don’t Be a Stranger” imagines the guilt of an absent father long before the moment ever arrives. “Detroit” spent 24 weeks on the Mainstream Rock Airplay chart, peaking at No. 2 and breaking into the top 10 on multiple formats.

No Place Like Home is a career-defining album for Badflower and destined to resonate with fans across the globe. This turning point confronts their discomfort head-on and invites listeners to do the same, all the while making us feel like we’re not alone.

Badflower will join forces with iconic band 311 this summer on the Unity Tour, set to hit several major cities across the United States. For more tour information and tickets click here.
