Maren Morris released her new single “bed no breakfast” on April 18 via Columbia Records. It’s the second preview from her upcoming album, D R E A M S I C L E, out May 9, following the release of the power ballad “carry me through.”

Produced by John Ryan and The Monsters & Strangerz, “bed no breakfast” is an ode to fleeting hook-ups and the desire to avoid the awkwardness of the morning after. It was the final song Morris wrote for the album with songwriter Delacey, inspired by a joke Morris made about her dating life. “Drunk girls don’t cry, they kick you out,” Morris shares.

Morris also dropped a music video to go with the track, featuring scenes of her lounging on a bed, cooking bacon and toast with an iron, and hanging clothes out to dry. She even slips in a clever nod to the movie-logging app, Letterboxd, giving her Maren Morris: Live From New York 2022 special a five-star review tying it right into the chorus lyrics: “A five star review is expected (Ah) / I check every box on your checklist (Ah) / These thousand-count sheets ain’t for resting / Excuse my directness / This is a bed no breakfast.”

In a statement shared via her fan club newsletter, The Lunatics, Morris wrote:

“this was the last song I wrote for Dreamsicle and I was honestly just divulging to Delacey during our writing session how dating for me had been going. turns out we laughed our way into writing an avoidant (but sexy) anthem about personal space after…personal closeness. if you enjoy secret doomscrolling at 3am, lying diagonally with no one next you to bother and sleeping to in, I hope this song becomes your personal mantra.”

Last weekend, Morris hit the Coachella stage during sets by both Zedd and the LA Philharmonic, respectively. She performed her breakout single “My Church” alongside the LA Philharmonic Saturday night complete with a gospel choir backing her and then joined Zedd on Sunday night for their massive hit “The Middle.”
