On the heels of their Coachella performances, Californian hardcore punk band Ceremony has released “Other Hells,” their first new song in 4 years. Reminiscent sonically of their album Rohnert Park, the track — released via Relapse Records — marks a return to the band’s faster, slammier roots.
Frontman Ross Farrar says the song reflects on the “ongoing rise in politics that lean on tribalism and polarizing rhetoric in an attempt to divide,” inviting the listener to examine the intermingling of opposing forces in our lives, such as being awake versus asleep, the physical versus the spiritual, and the rhythmic process of inhale and exhale.
The track becomes a mantra of sorts as Farrar repeats, “There’s no them / There’s no other / There’s just us!” This aggression is fundamental to Ceremony’s DNA; as Farrar puts it, the song responds to external divisions “by aiming to unify, using punk’s great liberatory force: the slam.”
While Ceremony released their first-ever live album, Live at the Hollywood Palladium, in 2025, they have not released a studio full-length since 2020’s In the Spirit World Now. With the arrival of “Other Hells,” the band leaves fans eagerly anticipating the next chapter of their evolution.
Though the band has no current tour dates, they are set to appear at Hellfest 2026 on Friday, June 19 in Clisson, France. Watch their Coachella set here:
