When Madonna joined Sabrina Carpenter on stage during weekend 2 of Coachella last month, audiences were ecstatic. What sent the crowd even more into a fever was the two performing a new, unreleased song together. Now, that song, “Bring Your Love,” has finally been released, with the single being a perfect new addition to club music playlists.
The style of “Bring Your Love” is a departure from Carpenter’s synth- and country-infused pop, but sits comfortably in the dance realm of Madonna’s catalogue. From the filtered in drum machine and sharp, stab synths, the song is clearly engineered to be blasted in a club late at night.
However, there is nothing about this club mix that really stands out. The moving beats in the choruses are by far the most interesting parts of the song, but they’re kept short and separated by monotonous verses. While it’s clear that the song is meant to be heard at 1am on a dark dance floor, “Bring Your Love” still feels like a remix of a song that wasn’t released.
This isn’t to say that “Bring Your Love” isn’t well produced. The drum programming is a highlight, with the filtered-out verses forcing the drum beat into the listener’s focus. Adding to this rhythm is the vocoder that’s subtly, sporadically placed on the vocals throughout, quietly following along with the beat. The backing vocals in “Bring Your Love” are also heavily automated to fill up the mix in the chorus, which adds to the song’s energy.
“Bring Your Love” is a surprise collaboration between the reigning queen of pop and the most recent princess of the genre. The single is set to be on the tracklist of Madonna’s upcoming album CONFESSIONS II, set for release on the July 3.
