Carry the Day are far from “Picture Perfect” on new single

Date:

The summer may be winding down, but things are definitely heating up for alt-rock band Carry the Day. In March of this year, the California rockers directly supported Norma Jean, adding the band to an already impressive list of other stage-sharers such as Escape the Fate, Eyes Set to Kill, and The Red Jumpsuit Apparatus. In June, the video for their 2021 single “Backup Plan” surpassed 1 million views on YouTube, and just last month, Carry the Day reached 1.3 million overall streams on Spotify. Even though their punk, metal, and rock sound has brought them this far, Carry the Day are ready to explore new options with their upcoming releases, starting with “Picture Perfect.”

On “Picture Perfect,” Carry the Day blend their 90s and 00s alt-rock style with elements of pop for an edgy release. The catchy melodies, rock grit, and twinge of insecurity from the lyrics mix together for an intriguing statement on status and belonging, as lead vocalist Chris Huynh delivers in the verses. He sings, “Sometimes the ones that you’re around will be the ones that put you down” and “I’d rather be at home than be with these picture perfect people I don’t know.” In the end, he reveals, “I wish I could be you / So comfortable in your shoes / But I’m not picture perfect / ‘Cause I was born to lose” and asks, “Well, who’s perfect anyway?” accepting that perfection is not what it is cracked up to be. It is better to stand out than blend in, as we find in the accompanying music video.

In the video, we see a small gathering of people in crisp and clean white outfits, ready to impress at a casual party in someone’s backyard. They are pleased to be in each other’s company, while Carry the Day are not. As everyone is gathered outside, the guys are performing inside and dressed in black, providing a strong contrast. Does everyone stay in their own bubble, or does the tension build until it finally explodes? Find out below.

Until the band drops their next single, you can check out “Picture Perfect” on platforms like Spotify and Apple Music.
