Olivia Hellman is out for revenge on “Prove It!”

Date:

Last year, Olivia Hellman gave us the ultimate feminist anthem with her debut single, “Mr. Ego Boy.” Its outspoken lyrics, pop rock energy, and sharp attitude make it a compelling listen while also reminding us that the rising singer-songwriter is someone to watch out for this year. When we spoke with Olivia back in August, she told us that her upcoming singles will lead up to the release of her EP, which will contain a variety of genres and sounds. Each song on the project will also tell a unique story, such as the one we hear on her newest single, “Prove It!”

On “Prove It!” Olivia is out for revenge. As if we are already late to the show, the track starts out with a sizzling guitar solo, placing us right in the middle of the action. We are then treated to a driving surf rock groove and innocent pop melodies, giving way to Olivia’s defiant words. Throughout the track, she shares that she is not a princess in need of saving, she is not one to fight fair, and she will not easily be broken. We can feel this energy in lines like, “I’m one to hold grudges, that’s how I roll / Fool me once and pay your toll” and “They keep telling me what to do / Think you know me? Well I’ll show you,” so if you are in her way, it’s best to get out now.

In the music video for “Prove It!” Olivia takes inspiration from the intro to the classic 70s film Saturday Night Fever. Strutting down a busy sidewalk in style, she sings to the camera without skipping a beat. It doesn’t matter if the people she passes by stare at her in shock or in awe because Olivia is a total boss, and she is well aware of what she wants. If there are any doubts, she happily tells us, “I’ll prove it” with a chilling smile on her face. You can check it out below.

You can listen to “Prove It!” on platforms like Spotify and Apple Music.
