“Terrified” of not being enough: Glasgow’s Kerr Mercer releases new single

Date:

Soulful, deep, sensual, and raw. There aren’t nearly enough words in the English dictionary to describe the immense talent radiating from young Glasgow artist Kerr Mercer on his single, “Terrified”.

Having only released 2 singles — with the first one, “Alcohol,” amassing over 1 million streams — this artist has only just begun what will be an extremely successful music career at just 18 years old.

With help from songwriter Max Wolfgang, who cowrote Olivia Dean‘s album The Art of Loving, “Terrified” became the product of their collaboration. In a press release, Mercer states:

he [Wolfgang] asked me to write a song and this is what came out of it!… we wrote it at my mum’s house in glasgow… it’s about the feeling of being literally so unbearably worried that you’re not enough for someone.”

Such a theme can be felt within the intricate and soft sounds of the piano, accompanied by these lyrics: “What a way to start the day / Waking up to hear you say / I love you / The way you always do / Nothing says forever, like that kiss before we say goodbye / It’s frightening, so frightening / No one knows me like you do / If perfect’s real then you’re the proof / I’m doing all I can to hide the truth that I’m so terrified I’m not enough for you.”
