Lauren Morgan of SALES steps into a new era as Lorg with “Marathonia”

Date:

Anyone who has followed the beloved indie duo SALES will instantly recognize the delicate, distinctive vocals of Lauren Morgan. Today, they’re marking a definitive new chapter, embarking under the stage name Lorg and releasing “Marathonia,” their compelling new single.

Catering to fans of dreamy acts like Cigarettes After Sex and Beach House, the atmospheric single was crafted amid intense change — including a relocation from Asheville to Brooklyn and shifts in major relationships — and explores what it means to find your footing when the ground beneath you experiences seismic waves. Sonically, Lorg takes Morgan’s signature minimal indie-pop roots and expands them into a sleeker, more sophisticated electronic sound.

“Marathonia” balances a DIY home-studio feel with polished embellishments. When asked about the process, they shared:

“The jangly sustained intro chords kind of made me feel like Big Star for a moment. In the studio this song got some proper embellishments. But I always like to keep the feeling of the recording from my home studio. Three cheers for the stark beauty of a guitar plugged straight into your computer.”

The solo venture acts as a creative “counterspell” to years of self-doubt for Morgan. If this single is any indication, the spell is working beautifully.

“Marathonia” is available to stream today.
