In August of last year, Cali-based alt-rock and active rock band Carry the Day released the first single from their new era. “Start Over Again” was a very fitting way to kick off this chapter, just from the title alone. Musically, however, the song highlighted the band’s empowering guitar-driven sound while honoring the notion of breaking a toxic cycle and beginning anew. It was followed by “Letting Go” and “Home,” which continued to tell the story of Reign, Carry the Day’s latest EP.
On Reign, Carry the Day give us the three previously mentioned tracks, along with two new ones. There’s “Holding On,” a brief piano-based intro that takes us into the dark and swirling world of Reign. From there, we head into the title track. Here, Carry the Day team up with modern rock band DEAD SUGAR for a track that is full of power, resilience, and encouragement. Over the compelling drums, energetic guitar, and composed bass, vocalist Christopher Huynh sings, “Rise above and conquer all / I am the king” and “From the ashes, I will reign,” determined to come out on top. His impassioned vocals only grow stronger the more the track plays out, taking on the courage and confidence described in the song. You can check it out in the inspirational video below.
About “Reign,” Carry the Day explain,
“‘Reign’ explores the internal struggle between self-doubt and ambition, reflecting the fight to keep believing in yourself when doubt starts to take over. The song captures the band’s blend of heartfelt lyricism, heavy energy, and soaring dynamics, setting the tone for the full EP.”
